Calderas

2014, sculpture

For the sculptures shown in the exhibition, three distinctive moulds were used, reminiscent of the shape of swimming pools. Sand replaces what would normally fill the pools, creating the undulating hills and depressions that transform the pools into islands. The installation explores the effect of such objects on the landscape, contrasting simulated artificiality with idealized nature. "Calderas" is a geological term that describes a large volcanic crater that fills with water after the lava has cooled. In collaboration with Lucas Uhlmann
